Cerise UK Exclusive Jewellery Line from Vicky Davies
Growing up as an only child I always had a bit of a negative reaction to the phrase "the only one". When I was a very little girl it always made me feel better to have objects in a minimum of 2 just so that nothing ever got lonely. Analyse at will...... As I have grown older and become a more discerning shopper I now appreciate the the value of having something of limited quantity.
This is of particular interest at the moment as we are starting to find our way out of the fast fashion hangover. Now the emphasis is placed more on the rarity, longevity and personal significance of objects and rightly so as our resources are precious.
It was with this feeling in mind that I wanted to start a small collection of lines that were strictly exclusive to Cerise UK. After the admiration that Christine Bec's hats received I thought it would be fun to expand the idea. Vicky Davies was one of the first designers who expressed an interest in collaborating on this project. She had woken in the middle of the night(literally) with the idea to work with some fantastic tourmalines that she had come across a few months earlier. "Originally it was the tourmalines that caught my eye and reminded me of the colours of spring. The pinks of cherry blossoms and the shapes of budding leaves first came together. My second image was of lotus flowers with the greens and blues of the stones mirroring the leaves of the flowers and the water." In order for this to work for Vicky she had to place her ever practical side and classic sense of style into the mix. "I wanted to turn this dreamy, hope giving imagery and energy into an effortless set of jewellery pieces that could work well together or apart." Vicky explained. Judging by the customer reactions to her collection in the shop she's definitely succeeded.
The collection is called "Inspire" due to tourmalines being said to have properties which promote and inspirational state in the mind. According to The Colour Guide To Crystal Healing by J S Stuart, tourmaline can alleviate isolation and return us to the humanity we all need by allowing an increased comprehension of the world around us ,our lives and interactions. This leads to a renewed sensitivity by allowing natural change to take place, disturbing the stagnation of
imagination tired from struggle. Whether or not you care to take this on board I find the stones themselves fascinating to gaze into as I observe the changing colour patterns within them. It can't be a bad thing to suspend our hectic lives for a little while and make time to stop and stare.
