Cerise UK has a long-standing tie with designers who have a strong ethical foundation. Indeed, the ethos of Cerise UK is to support local jewellery and fashion designers, some of which are a stone's throw from its London store.
Demonstrated by a number of designers, ecological responsibility can be achieved without sacrifing style or quality. From ethically created jewellery by Fifi Bijoux and Stephanie Ray to handbags and accessories from Hetty Rose, these designers work very hard to use materials that are sustainable, and employ a workforce that is paid a fair wage.
Lowie's range of ethical knitwear is created from wool sourced from sheep in this country, reducing transportation costs. Keeping carbon emissions as low as possible, orders in London are biked from the Brixton studio.
But what of the manufacture? Production is undertaken in a small town on the coast of Eastern China. Instead of people leaving their family homes in droves to the city looking for work, Lowie's team of workers are able work from home. This makes all the difference; for designer Bronwyn Lowenthal ensuring that the local community is not negatively affected to produce fashion items is a high priority.
Not only supplying ethical knitwear and jewellery, Cerise UK also hosts events highlighting the importance of an eco-friendly and resource-saving attitude. One such event, discussing the importance of sustainable resources, was co-hosted with Beate Kubitz. Beate is a designer that has managed to combine farming and fashion, to the extent of rearing her own sheep.
The result of this is a high quality product that supports a company built on strong values. Shown by the range of stylish knitted and crocheted hats from Lowie, Cerise UK's supplying designers prove that desirable fashion can still be produced responsibility.
