The production of high quality jewellery does not have to promote inequality or environmental damage, so we prefer to promote designers who use not only ethically balanced methods but keep an eye on environmental impact.

So what is ethical jewellery?

Ethical jewellery is that which is produced in a way which promotes fair conditions for workers who extract, produce or find the materials needed to produce jewellery. In brief, here are some of the factors we believe should be used to determine an ethical approach:

• All raw materials should be mined using ethical methods. These include:
  • There should be a fair wage in place for all employees
  • All local laws should be adhered to
  • All employees should be provided with protective clothing for any hazardous environment or chemical usage
  • There should be a total abscence of child or slave labour
  • A safe, well ventilated working environment should be provided to all employees with sufficient lighting
  • All employees should be free from abuse or fear of harm from their employer
  • Work tools should be well maintained and pose no threat to any employee asked to use them
• Production of jewellery should be as environmentally sound as possible:
  • Minimum environmental impact should be ensured for all raw materials used in jewellery
  • A clear, documented environmentally sound approach should be demonstrated from all jewellery manufacturers

Fifi Bijoux produce our range of ethically produced Gold jewellery, with their signature piece being the 'leaf and acorn'pendants and earrings. Fifi Bijoux believe in the ethical production of gold, silver and gemstones and support the fair trade in these commodities. All Fifi Bijoux jewellery is produced by master craftsmen right here in the UK.

Leju are our supplier of vegetable ivory jewelley. This jewellery has all the warmth and beauty of elephant ivory with the added bonuses that it is totally renewable, organic and environmentally friendly whilst being both ethically sound and available in a range of stunning designs and colours!

The range of vegetable ivory jewellery is produced using methods that have minimal environmental impact, whilst providing a valuable source of income for the indigenous tribes of the Amazon who provide the raw materials used in this jewellery.

The Branch

This innovative designer uses traditional methods and materials to produce a range of wooden jewellery which is truly environmentally friendly and ethical. The range of jewellery is produced in Indonesia from Rosewood, gold, silver and semi-precious stones and diamonds. No chemicals are used in production of the range from The Branch and an ethical policy ensures that minimal impact is made to the ecology of the areas inhabited by the workers who produce the jewellery.
